You can create all of the Italian language characters using the table at the bottom of this page.
First, set Num Lock on. Then, hold down the alt key, and use the numeric keypad on the right side of the keyboard to type in a zero plus the three digit number under the symbol. So, to create À, hold down alt and type in 0192. After you type the 2, release the alt key and you should see the À appear.

You can also set up Word to handle accent marks. Click on "Insert" from the menuy bar, and from there, pick symbol. In the list of special symbols, you can find all of the vowels with both types of accent. Pick one, then click on the botton towards the bottom that says "Shortcut Key." This allows you to create special keystroke sequences that will cause the symbol to be inserted in the document at that point. For example, I have set up the shortcut key F2 + e to insert è.
